Why you plateau
Most typists plateau because they've stopped practicing deliberately — they just type. Speed lives in the deliberate zone: slightly harder than comfortable, measured, and repeated.
Six techniques that work
Warm-up drills, sprint intervals, weak-key isolation, real-text sessions, weekly timed tests, and rest days. Rotate them across the week.
- Warm-up: 60 seconds of home-row drills before real practice.
- Sprint: 30s fast + 30s rest × 5 rounds.
- Weak-key: identify your worst 3 keys from any test and drill them for 5 minutes.
- Real text: type a news article for 5 minutes at normal speed.
- Timed test: one 1-minute test at the end of every session, logged.
- Rest: one full off-day per week.
